Opportunities From: Maryland Park Service

Cunningham Falls State Park hosts hundreds of thousands of visitors each year. Our Visitor and Nature Center volunteers are often the first person they encounter in the park. When you volunteer at the Visitor or Nature Center, you will help park visitors with information about the park and surrounding area, provide directions, and answer many basic questions that anyone may have. These volunteers can also assist with park programming activities including crafts and games. If your passion is customer service, they may be a good fit for you.

Are you interested in completing your Eagle Scout project requirements through your local state park? Do you need to fulfill student service learning hours?

This could be the opportunity for you! Opportunities include Maple Syrup Festival, Maryland Iron Festival, and Spirits of the Furnace.

Seeking individuals that love working with their hands! This can range from trash pick up to weed whacking, carpentry, painting, and more! Volunteers would assist staff in completing minor maintenance projects throughout the park.

Do you have a passion for gardening? Cunningham Falls State Park is seeking volunteers that can identify and distinguish between invasive and native plant species to manage plants throughout the parks. Our goal is to encourage the production of native plant species and reduce the number of invasive plants. The park provides all gardening and interpretive equipment. Volunteers are responsible for wearing appropriate footwear, clothing and gear.

If you are personable, enthusiastic and possess a love for the outdoors, here's your chance to enjoy the beautiful wooded surroundings in one of our two campgrounds as a camp host. Cunningham Falls Houck Campground features 144 sites in five camp loops with an additional 31 sites at our Manor location.

Camp hosts are required to work 20 hours per week in exchange for a free campsite all of which include electric and some with sewer hook up. You'll greet new arrivals sharing the park's rules and regulations, provide information and field questions regarding the park's amenties, and promote park events and activities providing directions within the park and to attractions. Other responsibilities include monitoring the campground bathrooms for cleanliness and supplies and cleaning the campsites which include raking the pads, cleaning up trash, and emptying the grills/fire rings. The ability to interact with the public and staff in a cordial and tactful manner is required. A criminal backgound check will be conducted and a driver's license valid in the state of Maryland is required. Interested persons are encouraged to apply as the number of positions is limited

Like to get your hands dirty or hike? Volunteer to join the trail stewardship program. Check trails on a regular basis and report any issues, downed trees or signage issues. Occasional trail work days are set to clear and repair trails throughout the year. The ability to work outside in all weather conditions on rugged terrain is a must.
