Fair Hill Natural Resources Management Area & Bohemia River State Park

Who We Are

Fair Hill is a 5,656 acre Natural Resources Management Area, where multiple management practices are employed for the maximum use and protection of Maryland's natural resources. Bordered by Pennsylvania to the north and less than one half mile west of Delaware, Fair Hill is known for its pristine fields, woodlands and natural beauty. At one time one of the largest private land holdings in the east, Fair Hill was formerly owned by William duPont, Jr., an avid equestrian rider who acquired the farmland as a means to enjoy riding as well as fox chasing. Fair Hill was purchased by the state in 1975 from Mr. duPont's estate.

Bohemia River State Park is open 7 days a week from 7 a.m. to sunset for passive recreational activities such as trail use and nature observation. It can be accessed from Route 213 via the public entrance at 4030 Augustine Herman Highway. Phase 1 amenities at the park presently include a small parking area and multi-use trails.

What We Do

The mission of the Maryland Park Service is to manage the natural, cultural, historical and recreational resources to provide for wise stewardship and enjoyment by people. The Maryland Park Service's volunteer programs provide many ways for park-goers to be involved in supporting and maintaining public lands for all to enjoy. The work that volunteers do in our parks is very important! Interested in volunteering in state parks? Please explore what options may be available near you!
