Who We Are

New Germany State Park’s visitors frequentl​y call it a “best kept secret.” This mountain gem is nestled between the 2,900 ft. Big Sa​vage Mountain to the east and the eastern Continental Divide along Meadow Mountain to the west. New Germany has diverse forests with ten miles of multi-use trails and a small lake suitable for fishing, swimming, and paddling. There is no cell phone service at New Germany State Park. An emergency phone (911 ONLY) is available insi​de the Lake House at 403 McAndrews Hill Road, Grantsville, Maryland. A pay phone is also available at 474 McAndrews Hill Road, Grantsville, Maryland (across the road from New Germany Lake

Situated at the mouth of the Savage River Reservoir, Big Run State Park is the perfect base camp from which to enjoy the surrounding Savage River State Forest​. Campers at Big Run have easy access to fishing, boating, hiking or hunting opportunities. Autumn visitors have a spectacular view of the changing colors on the surrounding mountain ridges. Become familiar with the park's primitive conditions before your visit.

Perched high upon on a 16-mile long mountain in Lonaconing, Maryland, Dans Mountain State Park is the perfect place to cool down on a hot summer day. The 481-acre park features a fully accessible swimming pool, four large group pavilions, a recycled-tire playground and a peaceful pond for fishing. Consumption of alcohol is prohibited, except when an alcohol permit is purchased for the pavilions at time of reservation.

The mission of the Maryland Park Service is to manage the natural, cultural, historical and recreational resources to provide for wise stewardship and enjoyment by people. The Maryland Park Service's volunteer programs provide many ways for park-goers to be involved in supporting and maintaining public lands for all to enjoy.
